💡 Understanding Extract Ratios

An extraction ratio (e.g. 10:1) indicates that 10kg of raw botanical crop dried biomass was concentrated into 1kg of final extract powder.

Unlike standardized extracts which guarantee specific laboratory marker compound percentages, ratio extracts represent physical concentrations of the raw botanical crop.

Procurement use

Use the result as a sourcing checkpoint, not a final specification.

Extract ratio is useful for rough comparison, but it does not replace marker assay, extraction solvent, plant part and process information. Use this tool to prepare better questions before comparing botanical extract quotations.

Ask whether the ratio is input-to-output, native extract ratio or marketing claim.

Compare ratio with standardized active marker assay when potency matters.

Confirm plant part, extraction solvent, carrier and excipient level.

Request COA and specification sheet before treating two ratios as equivalent.

A 10:1 extract is not automatically stronger or better than a standardized extract. Procurement decisions should be based on the full specification.
